Those of you who know me, know I really don’t like cooking, and I rarely ever follow a recipe. A recipe is just a guideline, right?! I feel like Speech is a recipe. If you go online you are going to find thousands of recipes for chocolate chip cookies. Just like cookies, there are multiple ways to achieve a successful Speech, however there are typically a few key ingredients!

Cup of Confidence- it takes a certain amount of confidence to be able to get in front of a group of people and speak. More than a cup full of confidence can come off as cocky. Be humble and certain that this is exactly where God wants you!

Pound of Passion- speak from the heart. Give your audience your conviction, let them feel your passion.

Pinch of Inspiration- I believe, we were each born to make an impact. Nelson Mandela stated, “as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give permission for others to do the same.” Just by giving your speech you are an inspiration!

Lightly Packed Modifications- remember you might have to modify on the fly. You may not have the correct ingredients on hand, and you may need to make a substitution. Each speech is unique and so is each competition round. Be aware of what is going on around you. Is there a noisy air conditioner? A window open with distractions happening outside? You need to try to control the situation by making sure you are connecting with your audience.

Heaping amount of Energy- your energy is contagious! Make sure your audience catches the fire! Sometimes a person’s energy can be more foretelling than their words!

Leveled off with the zest of YOU- you have the audience’s undivided attention. Most judges are there because they want to be. YOU should shine through in your speech! Let your audience get to know YOU! You don’t have to be a politician, an activist, or the president! Your goal should be to bless the people sitting in front of you, with your genuine self!
