Mars Hill Boot Camp with Camille Floyd

Whether your preparing for NITOC or for next year… come learn more about this AWESOME Speech Category with the one and only, Camille Floyd. Sign up for her two night Workshop May 19 and 21. The sessions will be recorded. See the link below… In the mean time read Camille’s perspective on why Mars Hill is one of the most important Speech Categories…

Have you ever sat down with a stranger and talked to them about their anxiety? Have you ever told a random person about the power of forgiveness?

Yeah, ok. Probably not. I know I wouldn’t be comfortable in those conversations and we can all imagine how uncomfortable the other person would be. But those conversations are important, right? And sharing with people the information we have about our faith and our purpose in life is what we are called to do?

Jesus’s last words on this earth were “Go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you” (Matthew 28:19-20a). For the longest time, I thought bringing people to Christ meant starting the conversation with the commandments and theology. But Christ started with love. Christ consistently tied his spiritual messages with a story or with a physical miracle. He led with the tangible, something people could grasp and understand, before he gave them spiritual truths.

This is also what the Apostle Paul did with the men of Athens on Mars Hill, recorded in Acts 17. He noticed what the Athenians already worshiped and were familiar with. He then showed them how Christ fulfils what they are longing for and how Christ is what we ought to worship.

Mars Hill as a competitive speech event is modelled exactly on what Paul did. Many people view Mars Hill as a way to relate cultural things to spiritual things, but if we are truly modeling the event after Paul’s speech, the main objective should be to show how the things of God are different and better.

Understanding Paul’s speech and the event rules and ballot is the first step of many to understanding Mars Hill. That is why I have created a unique and effective course to help students refine their skills and excel at Mars Hill as an event. At the same time, the information I will share will help you in your everyday life so that you can live out the Great Commision and speak in truth and love to other people.

I am hosting a Mars Hill NITOC Prep & Boot Camp in the next couple of weeks. There are three tracks I will run, but whichever one you choose will be two ninety minute sessions of coaching specific to Mars Hill. My goals for this course are to prepare you to excel at NITOC and in the real world. The class will include:

  • Relevant reading to specific topics
  • Do’s and don’ts of competitive Mars Hill
  • Strategy tips
  • Advice for preparation on topics
  • Drills
  • Unique advice for Mars Hill at NITOC
  • How to learn from ballots
  • A breakdown of categories and central themes

Maybe you aren’t competing in Mars Hill at NITOC but want to improve at the event for next season. This course is also for you! The information I will be teaching will give you an upper hand for competition and a better understanding for approaching the event. After writing over a hundred briefs on topics and themes and categories, I can provide you with valuable tips for tackling all of the Mars Hill topics!

And finally, whatever you do, keep God as your focus. You won’t get anywhere in life, and certainly not at NITOC, without God. If your number one goal is to bring yourself glory, I can’t help you succeed. But if you want to increase in excellence and understanding for God’s glory, I would love to have you as a student! I want to help you succeed in Mars Hill and glorify God in everything you do. If you have any specific questions, feel free to email me at camillefloyd213@gmail.com. God bless your labors in this season!
