This summer the Lasting Impact Team and myself have been working hard on the 2020-2021 NCFCA Lincoln Douglas Debate Guidebook!
Through this process, I have discovered the difficulty level of this resolution – it isn’t an easy one. We want you to be as prepared as possible; we want you to reach your fullest potential.
The Guidebook is to do precisely as the name implies – guide you through the year. If you have never stepped foot in a round or if you are a seasoned pro looking to dominate your senior year, this book is for you.
For beginners, it contains thorough explanations and illustrations of each element of an LD case. Additionally, multiple cases are provided that can be used as-is or made into one’s own.
For advanced debaters, we have made sure that over 90% of the evidence found is from highly credible sources, that the briefs cover every major example you need to know about, and that inside contains everything you need to jumpstart your year.
Young or old, teacher or competitor, this Guidebook is for you.
You won’t be disappointed! Get it HERE.
Want to know more about the author… Here is what Hope had to say when we asked her a few questions…
Why did you feel led to write an LD Guide Book?
I love Lincoln Douglas Debate and I wanted to create a unique resource that people could really benefit from! Specifically, I desired to provide a highly credible, easy to use Guidebook which people at any level of experience could utilize. Found in the Guidebook are arguments that wouldn’t be seen anywhere else as well as a step-by-step approach to aid newer debaters in mastering LD!
Who do you hope it benefits?
I hope that this benefits every kind of debater and coach out there! It was intentionally designed to help newer debates and coaches be able to understand the key elements of Lincoln Douglas Debate and get started on their debate journey. That’s why we wanted to include explanations of values, contentions, applications, etc. alongside fully written cases that can be used in debate rounds. However, the Guidebook was also designed for experienced debaters. It contains a plethora of highly credible evidence, unique and persuasive arguments, and applications all intended to jump-start your year!
What have you gained by being involved in Speech and Debate?
Speech and Debate has shaped me into who I am today. It has taught me how to have confidence in myself even if I’m feeling insecure, how to communicate with others even when it’s difficult, how to think critically and identify when someone is putting out false information, how to speak persuasively and so so SO much more! I could write for hours about all that I have gained through being involved in Speech and Debate. I truly believe that it has been the most influential thing in my life and I feel so blessed to have been able to participate in it.
What’s next for Hope Rawlson?
I am about to start the next part of my journey and move to Wenham, MA to attend Gordon College! I am going to double-major in political science and history. After I graduate I plan to go to law school and start my career from there!
What would you tell your younger self, a beginning Speech and Debate Hope?
I would tell my younger self that you can accomplish anything that you want to if you put your mind to it. Even if it seems impossible, even if you feel more discouraged than ever, your dreams are attainable! Failure is what paves the way to success, so don’t be afraid of it! Also, don’t forget to have some fun along the way 🙂
Is there anything else you would like to say?
Debate is one of my favorite things I’ve ever done and I’m so excited to be able to share what I’ve learned with you! I hope that this resource can benefit you in your debate journey. Speech and Debate is an amazing experience so enjoy it every step of the way!
