Description:
Designed for experienced debaters seeking to sharpen their competitive edge, this two-half-day intensive focuses on higher-level strategic thinking, advanced case development, and sophisticated round strategy.
Topics include:
- Advanced affirmative case writing
- In-depth resolutional analysis and content development
- Advanced affirmative and negative strategy
- Impact calculus and weighing techniques
- Strategic use of turns
- Narrative and persuasive framing
- Theory-oriented strategic practices
- High-level rebuttal and round vision
This camp places a strong emphasis on practical application through intensive drills, strategy labs, rebuttal exercises, and live practice rounds. Students will workshop arguments, receive direct feedback, and practice advanced strategic decision-making in realistic debate situations designed to improve both technical skill and persuasive effectiveness.
Students will engage with more complex debate concepts while refining the technical and persuasive skills necessary for success in advanced Team Policy competition.
About the instructor:
Nathanael Kolssak has over a decade of competitive speech and debate experience across 4+ formats of debate, winning tournaments in Team policy, Lincoln-Douglas, and IPDA. Nathanael served as captain of the Cedarville forensics team, and he is pursuing his master’s degree in rhetoric and the philosophy of communication. Nathanael’s teaching relies on bringing together communication theory and debate best practices to train students how to be eloquent and persuasive rather than just win rounds. He believes that the best debaters are the ones who can craft a better story and weave a narrative throughout their debate.
