Breakdown

Do you want your child to understand argumentation, logic, as well as excellent communication skills? Debate is the answer. This camp is designed to get students thinking on their toes! It will be an interactive and engaging approach to what sometimes be thought of as boring. Noah McKay will lead students through the ins and outs of two types of high school debate… Parliamentary Debate and Lincoln Douglas Debate.

Beginner Parli: Noah will walk beginning/intermediate students through foundational concepts in the Parliamentary format of debate. Students will learn how parli rounds are structured, how pre-round preparation works, how parli cases are assembled and delivered, and what kinds of arguments and research are relevant to parli resolutions. They will also have opportunities to practice new skills by writing their own case outlines and participating in mock debate drills.

LD Basics: Noah McKay will walk beginning/intermediate students through foundational concepts in the Lincoln Douglas format of debate. Students will learn how LD rounds are structured, how LD cases are written, and what kinds of arguments and research are relevant to LD resolutions. They will also have opportunities to practice new skills by writing their own case outlines and participating in mock debate drills. 

Bio –

Noah McKay is a Speech and Debate alumnus currently pursuing graduate studies in philosophy through the University of Edinburgh. During his time in the NCFCA, Noah was a regional champion and national finalist in both Lincoln Douglas debate and apologetics. In 2017 (his senior year), Noah won first place in moot court and Best Advocate at two out of three national opens, and became one of only a dozen students to receive the “Iron Man Plus” award for simultaneously competing in five speech events, debate, and moot court at the National Championship. Since graduating high school, Noah has earned a B.A. in philosophy, presented original research at multiple academic conferences, and coached Lincoln Douglas debate for five years. Noah resides in the city of St. Louis, Missouri with his wife, Alexandra, who is pursuing her MA in marriage and family therapy at St. Louis University. He enjoys good coffee (especially with Alexandra), morning runs, and watching his students succeed.
