Extemp Club with Patrick McDonald and Roman Hogancamp

The Lasting Impact! Extemp Club is an immersive program designed to equip participants with the skills to analyze, synthesize, and present current events with clarity and confidence. This class will provide insight into the world of extemporaneous speaking, focusing on keeping up with the news from week to week and building practicable speaking and organizational skills that will apply to any topic.

Patrick McDonald – Patrick says, “My time in speech and debate taught me that speeches are conversations first and performances second. In my view, presentations should be thorough, accurate, and engaging—but also clear, candid, and concise. Understanding is a prerequisite to persuasion.“

Roman Hogancamp – will be attending Patrick Henry College this fall, majoring in Strategic Intelligence with an emphasis in Economics. During his senior year, Roman qualified for the NCFCA National Championship in Team Policy Debate, Moot Court, and seven speeches, including: Apologetics, Biblical Thematic, Digital Presentation, Extemporaneous, Impromptu, Informative and Persuasive. Qualifying for the NCFCA National Tournament throughout high school, Roman has earned such distinctions as 2024 Extemporaneous National Champion, 2nd place in Informative Speaking, 8th in Humorous, 12th in Digital Presentation, and 21st in Team Policy Debate.

Roman has also served, first as a speech and debate mentor, and then as a Team Policy Coach.

Outside of speech and debate, Roman teaches K-4th grade Sunday School at his local church, is employed as a Paintball referee, plays pickleball, and builds and plays guitars—electric guitar being his favorite.
