Description:
This offering is an in-depth, interactive online debate club for students with some debate experience (TP or LD). In the fall semester, students will explore this year’s NCFCA Lincoln-Douglas resolution, research arguments and case ideas, participate in in-depth discussions and practice debates with other online club members. Classroom discussions will involve students in discussion about the essentials of value debate, common LD mistakes, strengths and weaknesses of potential cases and winning strategies for LD debate. Classroom activities will reinforce basic debate skills and allow students to practice advanced skills such as refutation and cross-examination. At the end of the semester, students will:
– Understand the theories about and be familiar with multiple applications concerning this year’s resolution
– Write and receive feedback for an affirmative case and a negative case that they can use in competition
– Be able to critique and defend a wide range of values with respect to this year’s resolution
– Participate in at least one practice debate for each side of the resolution
– Prepare themselves for the competitive season
Setting the foundation and understanding the fundamentals of LD is essential each year, whether you are a novice, intermediate, or advanced.
