Lasting Impact! Cross-Training Camp
The Sarasota and St. Petersburg Clubs and Lasting Impact! have come together to create an integrated and IN-PERSON summer camp experience for students who want to improve their public speaking and debate skills. This thoughtful and unique approach to teaching speech and debate through an intensive three day summer camp is aimed at equipping students, parents, and coaches with the skills necessary to effectively communicate from a Biblical worldview.
Beginning students will learn the fundamentals of debate and how to deliver a variety of speeches (e.g., platform, interpretive and impromptu speeches). Advanced students will focus on refutation, cross examination, and in developing and applying advanced debate strategies. They will also be challenged to develop their speaking personas and confidence with impromptu speaking.

Objectives:
- Collect and organize ideas into logical arguments
- Critically evaluate evidence for improved refutation
- Identify critical connections and the primary focus of any debate
- Learn to speak naturally and convincingly
- Learn to adapt & think on your feet
- Learn to turn your fear and/or nervousness to energy and confidence
- Stretch and grow in your communication skills (at every level)
- Learn to connect your thoughts & ideas into meaningful speeches
- Create purposeful thesis statements and roadmaps
- Define and practice your debate/speech persona
Coaches include…
Heather Neumann –
Heather Neumann is the founder of Lasting Impact! (www.lastingimpact.info). She empowers her clients to find their inner voice through public speaking. Heather says, “Your voice has power. It has the ability to make a Lasting Impact! All you have to do is use it!” Lasting Impact! started in 2016 and contains over 500 articles about public speaking. Lasting Impact!’s goal is to better equip families by coming alongside students, parents, coaches, and clubs. Most of Heather’s clients are high school students participating in competitive Speech and Debate. However, Heather is also a speaker coach for TedX and has helped adult clients as well, including an Olympic Silver Medalist. She has been blessed to have coached thousands of students, including numerous National Champions.
Ethan Tong –
Ethan Tong (’19 NCFCA alumnus) has coached for over five years after a successful high school career that included fifteen top-3 placements and two national oral advocate awards. He went on to garner an outstanding attorney award and two outstanding witness awards in College Mock Trial. Now, he coaches LD, TP, and Moot. His coaching philosophy emphasizes that persuasion is about teaching judges, not just sounding good to your peers. His private students routinely place at the national level, including nearly sweeping the 7 Oral Advocate awards available at Nationals last year. One of his teams made the final round.
