Whether you are an experienced speaker looking to gain input and learn new tips as you develop your speech for the competition year or are new to public speaking and hoping to learn how to give an inspiring oral presentation, this class is for you. It will explore the basics of what constitutes a platform speech, delve into the process of effectively executing the students’ ideas as they write and deliver their speech, discuss how students are to best connect with and engage their audiences, and finally create an environment in which students can grow and flourish in their public speaking skills. Over the course of the six weeks, students will choose a topic, develop an outline, construct a rough and final draft, and present a five to ten minute speech. By the end of the class, students will be able to give a cohesive, informative, persuasive, and moving presentation. They will hone their speaking skills as they learn to better communicate with their audience.
